When booking your fly drive or touring holiday, take care to notice what is included and what's not included in your holiday price as this can vary dramatically.
This can often make an initially great price seem too good to be true once you have factored in any extra costs. Here are the main things to be aware of.
Fly drive holidays
Fly drive holiday prices generally include the cost of your flights (including all applicable departure and arrival taxes), your car hire on a fully inclusive basis and, on pre-planned itineraries you will have accommodation costs, generally on a room only basis (without meals). However we always urge you to check with your chosen company to ensure you are aware of what you need to pay extra for. Here are some items to consider:
- Does your price include flights AND car hire or are they separate items
- Are all airport and airline taxes included and do you have to pay extra for checking in baggage, food on board etc.?
- Is your car hire fully inclusive? Will you have to pay extra for collision damage waiver, theft protection or other car insurances? Are airport pick up charges included? Are there any hidden one way charges if dropping the vehicle in a different place to where you have picked the car up?
- How many drivers are covered on your rental deal?
- What accommodation is included in the price or is this extra?
- Motorway tolls and other such charges will generally be at your expense, as will all parking charges while the vehicle is in your possession.
- Check out the deal on fuel. You may have to return full or empty - check before driving away so you are not charged a re-fuel fee or fill up unnecessarily.
Touring holidays by coach, rail or river
Generally speaking, all tours will include a section detailing what is included - such as meals, transport and entrance fees etc. - however ensure you cover off the following so you know exactly what you are getting for your money.
- Is transport to and from the start of your tour included?
- What meals are included on each day?
- Are all hotel taxes and local charges paid for?
- Is porterage included? This is the cost of having your bags taken to your room and collected when you leave that hotel.
- Are tips included for guides and drivers?
- Are refreshments on board included?
- Are entrances to museums, sightseeing and other places of interest included or are they paid locally?
