Spain rivals France as one of the most visited countries in the world with many of us familiar with its many beach resorts and islands.

Holiday and caravan park holidays in Spain tend to be located in the Northern areas around the Costa Brava, Costa Dorada and the Coast Verde although you may find sites occasionally offered on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca.  However due to the ease of reaching these latter two destinations by plane and the many hotels and apartments, this type of holiday is not so popular there.

The journey time can be long at over 24 hours each way and the areas can be reached either via France with a short channel crossing and then a drive south, or on one of the ferry services direct into Northern Spain from the UK.  However, whichever way you travel it is well worth the wait.

Costa Verde

This is Spain's Northern coast bordering onto the Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay.  The area is extremely wealthy and prosperous and home to the Basques, an extremely proud and welcoming community.  Due to its location the area is very green, different to what many of us expect in Spain, with rolling hills, mountains and valleys all covered in grass, forests or farming land.  The beaches are long and sandy and similar to those along the western coast of France.  You can visit Bilbao, the major city of the region and see the Guggenheim museum or explore the Picos mountains or many small inland towns and villages with their ancient architecture.  The main resorts are around Santander and San Sebastian and are great for watersports and sunbathing.  It is close to those beaches that you will find the caravan and holiday parks.  There are lots of excellent walks to be had in and around the surrounding areas.

Costa Brava & Costa Dorada

This is the area south of the French border on the Mediterannean coast with Barcelona sat firmly in the middle.  The northern area (Costa Brava) is hilly as it is close to the Pyrenees and there are many small coves along the coast to sunbathe in and explore.  Small fishing villages dot the coast and the coastline is very rugged.  The Costa Dorada has wider beaches and the main resorts of Sitges and the theme park Port Aventura.  There are many medieval and Roman villages across the region and lots to see and do in the many towns and cities.  You can even visit the home of Dali at Figueres.

Food is plentiful and there is lots of variety, especially sea food, in the many café bars and restaurants.

The caravan and holiday park sites tend to be located close to the many beaches making them ideal if you enjoy sunbathing and watersports.
