Situated in the extreme south east of Europe, Greece and the Greek Islands are famed for their turquoise seas, sandy beaches, areas of outstanding natural beauty and sites of historical and archeological interest. They also have much to offer in the way of resorts, entertainment and cuisine, making them the destination of choice for millions of holidaymakers each year. Broken down into small groups, the Greek Islands all have their own unique characteristics, with no two islands the same. The landscapes are varied and holidaymakers will find bars, clubs and luxury hotel complexes sitting comfortably alongside pretty white churches, ancient ruins and quaint marinas.
The summer months (June to September in particular) are hot, with no cloud or rain throughout the season and as a result, the islands are at their busiest at this time. Winter can be wet and cool and resorts tend to close down at this time of year. For those who dislike intense heat, April-May and September-October offer more enjoyable warmth and cheaper prices.
