Antalya searches were up by more than 172% in June

Are you unsure of your next holiday destination and wondering where everyone else is considering for their getaways? Be inspired by your fellow Brits with these trending package holiday hotspots.

Every month at TravelSupermarket HQ, we’re analysing our top 20 most searched-for destinations to power our Holiday Hotlist, which also takes into account the cheapest destinations at the moment along with a range of other factors.

Below are the destinations that are currently seeing a spike in interest. Searches for the most on-trend holidays locations were up by over 150% in June compared to May*.

From old favourites in Spain and Greece, to rising stars you may not have considered, here are 11 package holiday destinations that our customers are loving right now.

1. Antalya, Turkey

Increase in searches since May: 172.1%

Aerial view of beautiful blue sea and a long sandy beach surrounded by mountains in Antalya, TurkeyAerial view of beautiful blue sea and a long sandy beach surrounded by mountains in Antalya, Turkey

Antalya has taken the number one spot on the TravelSupermarket Holiday Hotlist, driven partly by a massive increase in searches in June. Holidays to this sun-soaked gateway to the Turkish Riviera were up by more than 172%, making it our most on-trend destination right now.

When it comes to beach holidays, Antalya has everything you’d want and more – think over 200 Blue Flag beaches, ancient ruins and fun family attractions – so it’s perhaps no surprise that Brits looking for sunshine holidays are considering the aquamarine seas of southwest Turkey.

There are countless luxury all-inclusive resorts and some of the best beaches in Turkey dotted along this glorious coastline, such as the unspoiled Çıralı Beach, backed by verdant mountains, and Lara Beach, a lively hub of exhilarating watersports.

Away from the beaches and tranquil resort pools, there’s plenty of culture to enjoy in the city of Antalya too. Its harbour is a lovely place to wander around, with weathered fishing boats sitting alongside sleek modern yachts, while there’s an archaeology museum, the three-arched Hadrian’s Gate and traditional hammams and bazaars.

2. Corfu, Greece

Increase in searches since May: 158.3%

Corfu was another destination that holiday-hunters couldn’t get enough of in June, with searches more than doubling compared to the previous month. A classic summer escape, there are still plenty of cracking holiday deals to be found there for this year.

Unsurprisingly for a Greek island, it’s awash with world-class beaches, such as the vast horseshoe-shaped bay and striking rock formations of Agios Gordios and the Instagrammable twin beaches of Porto Timoni.

There are resorts for all tastes, too. In the north of the island, Kassiopi is the place to go for romantic taverna meals and leisurely harbourside strolls, while Kavos is a thronging nightlife hotspot in the south.

Powdery white-sand beaches with warm, shallow waters make Sidari a great option for a family holiday in Corfu, with the huge Aqualand waterpark one of many exciting things to do across the island.

3. Kefalonia, Greece

Increase in searches since May: 155.9%

Assos village in Kefalonia, GreeceAssos village in Kefalonia, Greece

Another Greek island that’s shot up our search charts is Kefalonia, with an increase of more than 155% compared to May.

The largest Ionian island offers a more peaceful ambience than many of its counterparts. If you’re travelling as a couple, consider chic Fiskardo with its pastel-painted houses, or Assos which is near Myrtos, one of the island’s best beaches.

And there are resorts to suit every type of traveller in Kefalonia, from family-friendly Skala, characterised by its long, sheltered beach and shallow waters, to Lassi which is a scuba diver’s paradise.

Experiences here are as varied as the resorts, so you won’t be short of things to do if you can drag yourself away from your hotel pool. Hire a bike and cycle through mountain forests to spot wild horses, hike to the breathtaking summit of Mount Ainos (stopping to sample the finest local wines on its lower slopes), or explore Old Vlachata, an eerie, abandoned village.

4. Sicily, Italy

Increase in searches since May: 95.9%

Sicily Island in Palermo, Italy, Europe stock photoSicily Island in Palermo, Italy, Europe stock photo

Flying up the rankings in this month’s Holiday Hotlist, Sicily appears to be luring in holidaymakers with its Italian charm and bargain prices for a week away. Searches for holidays to this enchanting Mediterranean island were up by nearly 95%.

Two of the most popular places to stay are the stylish clifftop resort town of Taormina, where you can enjoy showstopping views of Mount Etna, and the island’s capital city Palermo, with impressive Arab-Norman architecture. But there are plenty more attractive options for your stay here, too.

Revel in the authentic Sicilian atmosphere in Cefalù, where medieval buildings are backed by dramatic rock faces and its charming cafes and restaurants in the pedestrianised old town provide the perfect retreat after a day on its long, sandy beach.

If you’re after a city break, UNESCO-listed Catania is a more cosmopolitan alternative. Famed for its baroque architecture built in dark volcanic stone, bustling fish market and energetic nightlife, it’s a fantastic base for exploring Mount Etna or the distinctive Riviera dei Ciclopi coastline.

5. Algarve, Portugal

Increase in searches since May: 60.4%

Drone view of red-roofed white houses overlooking a golden beach and aqua seasDrone view of red-roofed white houses overlooking a golden beach and aqua seas

An age-old favourite for Brits, the Algarve is no surprise on our list of trending destinations as summer ramps up. With average maximum temperatures creeping into the late 20s in Portugal’s southernmost region in July and August, holiday searches on TravelSupermarket were up by over 60%.

From the historic churches and museums in the city of Faro to the miles of sandy beaches and boisterous bars in Albufeira, you’re spoilt for choice when picking a place to stay in the Algarve.

Spectacular spa hotels, swanky casinos and superb golf courses make Vilamoura a top pick for those seeking a touch of luxury, but more budget-conscious travellers won’t have an issue exploring the region without breaking the bank. Sagres, a laid-back surf town off the tourist trail to the west, is dotted with affordable accommodation and is a hub for activities including windsurfing, horseback riding and dolphin-spotting.

6. Majorca, Spain

Increase in searches since May: 59.9%

Cala Domingo beach in the resort of Calas de Majorca in the Balearic IslandsCala Domingo beach in the resort of Calas de Majorca in the Balearic Islands

The Balearic Islands are a dreamy summer holiday destination, so it was a surprise to see a drop in interest in Menorca last month, leaving it outside our 20 most searched-for destinations. However, its sister island Majorca emerged as a popular contender among those looking for holidays on TravelSupermarket – potentially with those looking for a last-minute escape – with an increase of nearly 60% compared to May.

The island has long been a leading Mediterranean destination for all-inclusive holidays, with its picturesque rocky coastline peppered with stylish resorts that overlook shimmering turquoise waters.

As a result, there’s plenty of places to stay. Cala Millor is one of the most popular resorts, particularly for family holidays thanks to the shallow, clear water of its palm-lined beach and the array of bars, restaurants and watersports to choose from.

The three large, sandy beaches in lively Palma Nova are fun places to hang out, and it’s a smart choice if you’re on a budget. The quaint fishing village atmosphere and mouthwatering seafood of Cala Bona are a draw for those wanting a more peaceful break, while Magaluf, with its epic all-night beach parties, is the pick if you’re hoping for the opposite.

If you’re dreaming of spending most of your holiday on the sand, staying in Cala d’Or is a must. Explore the unspoilt coves at Mondrago Natural Park or hire a car and drive to the gorgeous white sands of Es Trenc before returning to eat and watch the sun go down in its swanky marina.

7. Sardinia, Italy

Increase in searches since May: 54.4%

Aerial shot of Cala Brandinchi beach in SardiniaAerial shot of Cala Brandinchi beach in Sardinia

The second Italian destination on our latest trending list, Sardinia also saw searches grow significantly in June. There was an increase of more than 54% as Brits weighed up a trip to this premier beach holiday hotspot.

The second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia has an impressive coastline featuring beaches whose beauty can compete with those in the Caribbean or the Maldives. Some of the best are located in the south, with Santa Giusta near Costa Rei a truly magical stretch of fine white sand. Snorkel in shallow turquoise waters and paddle out to the iconic turtle-shaped rock formation, Scoglio di Peppino.

Elsewhere, Cala Brandinchi in the northeast of the island is nicknamed Little Tahiti thanks to its tropical vibe, with the lush green of thick pine forest meeting brilliant blue waters.

The likes of Stintino, Costa Smeralda and Villasimius are popular with beach lovers, but there are Sardinian cities boasting rich heritage where you can stay too. Alghero charms with its cobbled streets, bougainvillea-draped balconies and promenade primed for sunsets over the sea, and the capital Cagliari has a captivating medieval old town with authentic trattorias to relax in over a long, lazy meal.

8. Egypt

Increase in searches since May: 48.7%

Egypt asserted itself as ‘one to watch’ in June as it featured in nearly 49% more searches. Interest had dropped in May but it’s now back on the radar of holidaymakers who are perhaps planning ahead for sunshine trips in September and beyond.

From the famous pyramids of Giza on the outskirts of Cairo to the year-round sun and world-class snorkelling in the Red Sea, Egypt holidays deliver time after time.

Families flock to Hurghada for its waterparks, boat trips, desert safaris and more, not to mention its spectacular beaches with shallow waters and colourful coral reefs. To learn more about Egypt’s storied past, take a day trip back in time to Luxor, located on the sunny banks of the River Nile and dubbed ‘the world’s largest open-air museum’.

Close to Hurghada, El Gouna is one of the most esteemed resorts in Egypt, with tranquil lagoons, idyllic islands and upscale restaurants that contribute to a lively yet premium nightlife scene.

Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab and Marsa Alam are other resorts that are popular with Brits, thanks to their glorious sandy beaches, scorching temperatures and magical sea life.

9. Dalaman area, Turkey

Increase in searches since May: 40.9%

Interest in the Dalaman area may not have spiked quite as much as its Turkish counterpart Antalya, which topped this list, but a 40.9% uplift is still impressive.

Making up part of Turkey’s majestic Turquoise Coast, the Dalaman area is flanked by the imposing Taurus Mountains and the glistening Aegean Sea. Renowned for its all-inclusive holidays, there are endless sun-drenched beachfront resorts here.

Head to Marmaris to sip cocktails and gaze over sweeping blue bays, with a backdrop of pine-clad hills. Summers here are long and hot, with temperatures climbing well above 30°C and the sun shining 12 hours a day.

Fethiye offers an appealing blend of new and old, with modern resorts set close to the ancient Lycian city of Telmessos and a beautiful natural harbour. Nearby Olu Deniz is famed for its magnificent Blue Lagoon, and despite the postcard-perfect scenery here, holiday prices tend to be affordable.

10. Costa Blanca, Spain

Increase in searches since May: 34.6%

A view of Playa del Albir on the coast of Costa Blanca, SpainA view of Playa del Albir on the coast of Costa Blanca, Spain

For affordable sun, sea and sand less than a three-hour flight from the UK, the Costa Blanca takes some beating. Interest in this iconic Spanish summer holiday destination predictably ramped up in June, with searches up 34.6%.

Whether you’re eyeing up a last-minute summer getaway or a winter break, when temperatures are milder but the crowds are all but gone, the Costa Blanca has plenty of destinations to consider.

It’s always hard to look past Benidorm, with its year-round sun, lively city beach and vibrant nightlife. It’s not all booze and beaches either, with nearby mountains criss-crossed with epic hiking trails and an old town bustling with traditional tapas bars.

Alicante is another popular spot, even for a short break. As well as a hilltop castle it has a quaint old town, where you can indulge in fish stews and red grilled prawns, followed up by turron (a sweet made with nougat and nuts), the city’s favourite sweet treat.

Nearby Calpe poses an equally delicious Spanish food scene, though with a quieter feel than its neighbours along the coast. Make time to see the Natural Park of Penyal d'lfac, an impressive limestone outcrop that’s home to various rare plants and sea birds.

11. Zante, Greece

Increase in searches since May: 25.2%

An aerial view on the famous Shipwreck Beach in Zante with boats on sparkling blue water and surrounded by white cliffs covered in green treesAn aerial view on the famous Shipwreck Beach in Zante with boats on sparkling blue water and surrounded by white cliffs covered in green trees

A third Greek island completes our list this month, with TravelSupermarket customers keenly comparing Zante package deals alongside Corfu and Kefalonia. Although it saw the lowest uptick of the three, there were still 25.2% more searches for Zante in June, putting it firmly among our trending destinations at the moment.

A small island packed with diverse experiences, you can mould a Zante holiday to suit your style. Spend the morning watching nesting turtles (but do your research around ethical tours), snorkel from Makris Gialos beach in the afternoon and hit the strip in Laganas, a hub of bars, clubs and all-inclusive resorts, in the evening.

Tsilivi and Kalamaki are great for families looking to avoid the noise from partygoers and instead enjoy traditional tavernas serving slow-cooked lamb kleftiko. Their respective beaches are pretty, with azure waters and dramatic white cliff faces. Neither are far from Zante Water Village, one of the biggest waterparks in Greece.

You could even treat yourself to a luxury stay in Zante, knowing that it’s one of the cheapest destinations in Greece for a five-star holiday.
